Details

Vines, like people, often reach their peak in the face of adversity. This highly limited cuvée is hand made from 100-year-old vines that suffer daily to survive in dense slate soils on steep hillsides. Their fruit offers a unique mineral complexity that could come from no other place on earth and has done so since Carthusian monks first planted vines in Priorat in the 12th century (Priorat is the Catalan word for 'priory'). Serve Gran Clos with any grilled meat—especially beef and lamb—Serrano ham or aged cheeses such as Parmigiano, Manchego and Cheddar.

Vineyards & Winemaking
Aged 13–14 months in oak barrels (75% French, 25% American)
Grapes
Garnacha, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cariñena and Ull de Llebre. Picked September 1–October 2, 2001.
Tasting Notes
Dark cherry color. Good aromatic intensity, with hints of red and black fruits and balsamic notes. Round and balanced mouth with ripe, smooth tannins. Good integration of the wood. Tastes of ripe raspberries, blueberries and blackberries, with hints of liquorice, wild herbs and minerals. Good acidity. Long, persistent finish.
