Vines, like people, often reach their peak in the face of adversity. This highly limited cuvée is hand made from 100-year-old vines that suffer daily to survive in dense slate soils on steep hillsides. Their fruit offers a unique mineral complexity that could come from no other place on earth and has done so since Carthusian monks first planted vines in Priorat in the 12th century (Priorat is the Catalan word for 'priory'). Serve Gran Clos with any grilled meat—especially beef and lamb—Serrano ham or aged cheeses such as Parmigiano, Manchego and Cheddar.

Olive Oil
Olive Oil
Handmade from 100% cold-pressed Arbequina olives Soil and microclimate are just as important to olive trees as they are to vines. The flavours of olive oil are greatly affected by their terroir and by the manner in which they are handled and pressed. The oils of Tuscany typically exhibit a peppery finish while the olives of Catalunya are renowned for their zesty citrus and almond characters. Planting olive trees around the borders of vineyards is an ancient Priorat tradition stretching back many centuries. Olive oils from trees in the Priorat region are bottled under the strict regulations of the Siurana appellation—the olive trees on the Gran Clos estate are 100% Arbequina. This varietal, the most popular in Siurana, is small in size, with a tiny yield (approximately 15kg of oil from 100kg olives) that delivers exceptional quality and concentration of flavor. We cold press our olives the same day as they are harvested to capture the best of the aroma and flavor. We made only 999 bottles in the 2006 harvest and hope that each one goes to a deserving home!
2006
Cultivation
From olive trees—some over 100 years old— growing in the slate soil of our award-winning Priorat vineyards.
